Cut-and-Paste, Feast Of Circumcision
Materials: painter's tape & paper, on paper
This image contains the words, "Feast of the Circumcision," written in the Coptic language. The letters are spread apart so that the words are just barely legible. This is part of a series in which I cut and paste the names of each Coptic fasting period. I was ordained a deacon of the church at age 4, and I was asked to memorize and publicly recite Coptic liturgical responses in a language I didn't understand. The title of this series draws on the connotations of "cut-and-paste" with regards to identity, mimicry, language, & sameness.
